Places of interest in Uri

The Tower of the Lords of Hospental is the most striking building in Hospental. Thanks to its elevated position, the tower is visible from different directions and characterises the landscape of the Ursern valley.

Dates in the timbers in the masonry lead to the assumption that the tower was built in the 13th century. It could be that the Lords of Hospental were the building owners. It is known that the tower served as a residential tower for a long time, but that it has not been inhabited since the 15th century. The ruins are well preserved and on the west side, the moat is still slightly visible.

Another perspective: the tower is visible from many places in the valley. To climb up to the defence tower is very worthwhile. It offers a comprehensive view of Hospental and the Ursern valley.
